High School Freshmen who are inducted into the program are referred to as “Interns”, Sophomores and Juniors are called “Residents”, and Seniors are deemed “Attendings"
Each member is sworn in with the Declaration of Geneva, sorted into a house of specialty, and is given a card and certificate verifying their membership. The offered houses of specialties currently are Neurology, Cardiology, and Emergency Medicine. All fellows are trained in Healthcare Provider’s Basic Life Support, upon many other certifications in their preferable speciality.
Members of HAMES have the opportunity to perform surgery on pig hearts or lamb brains, learn how to start an IV on a trainer, auscultate with a stethoscope, interpret vitals, read ECG’s, learn ACLS guidelines, and a ton more! Even perform diagnostic exams like physicals, ophthalmologic, and neuro exams.
